The Best Homemade Krispy Kreme–Style Doughnuts

Fluffy, airy, melt-in-your-mouth — this is the base recipe you’ll use for all your Hogwarts creations.

Ingredients:

• 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast

• ¾ cup warm milk (110°F / 43°C)

• ¼ cup granulated sugar

• 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

• 1 large egg

• 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

• ¼ tsp salt

• Oil for frying

Glaze:

• 2 cups powdered sugar

• ¼ cup milk

• 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. In a large bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

2. Add melted butter, egg, flour, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.

3. Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).

4. Roll out dough to ½-inch thick, cut into doughnut shapes using a doughnut cutter, and let rise again for 30 minutes.

5. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry each doughnut for 1 minute per side until golden.

6. For glaze: whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Dip warm doughnuts and let excess drip off.
